Wordless Wednesday: Bumble Bee on Steroids

bumblebee
bumble bee
I guess I'm not used to seeing bumble bees. This guys was HUGE in my book. About 2" long and 1" thick. He would land on the flowers and the stems would start to bend.

Wow, that guy is enormous! Beautiful pictures.

My WW was about people working too hard at the end of the month: http://contests.about.com/b/2008/04/30/wordless-wednesday-end-of-the-month-sweepstakes-exhaustion.htm

That is a huge bee for sure!
I have never seen one that big before.

My WW is a field of daffodils.
Hope you can stop by.

Bumblebees can get pretty big. But, even though they are smaller, yellowjackets just have that evil "I'm gonna get ya" look to them.

He does look kinda big for a bumblebee. The ones around here seem half that size. Great capture of him on the flower though, I'd be afraid he might chase me down. ;)

I have seen some whopping large bumble bees in the last few days. Frost this morning so that should slow them down. Love all your sprouts!

Thank You everyone for stopping by for Wordless Wednesday! Thank you for all the nice comments on the photo. I guess it's not very uncommon to see a bumble bee this big. He was huge and my first sighting of one that big.

I love bumblebees, we have all sorts over here. I love watching them on salvia or lavender, you can feel how excited they are about the treasure they are plundering! Great pictures.
